Periodontics (treatment of gums and the bone supporting the teeth)
Gum disease is one of the leading causes of adult tooth loss. If diagnosed in its early (gingivitis) when the gums are red, swollen and puffy and bleed easily it can be treated and reversed. If treatment is delayed it can worsen and become periodontitis where there is bone loss and is not reversible. Treatment for gingivitis may include effective home care, scaling and root planning medications, or laser treatment.
For more advanced gum infection, periodontitis, you will be referred to our in-office specialist, Dr. Mark Schlesinger.
